Reeder 3 App Reviews

Not Very Intuitive.

I love this app but it is surprisingly hard to use. Theres no easy way to delete accounts, and theres no easy way to delete or rename folders (at the time of this review, I actually havent found a way to delete or rename folders...). The app throws you a gesture tutorial on startup, but I dont care about gestures that will not be relevant until I need them. Instead of throwing you a list of gestures (which I havent found a way to show again) and expect you to memorize them, it should guide you through the features the first time you reach the screens. In that way learning to use the app is more dynamic and thus easier to do.

I use it Every Day

My go to app for reading blogs and RSS content. Simple, elegant and does NOT require me to create an account on their service. Everything can be done locally. Drawbacks are very few, but include bland interface (I would like the option to choose something beyond grey and black), more font choices, graphics and pictures from feeds arent always sharp and colorful enough (as compared to Flipboard, Apple News and some others---but I dont know if that could be from the source websites and not the fault of the app). Overall, a GREAT investment in my opinion.

Best News Reeder App!

Reeder has the most features, please add Pocket support in addition to Readability and Instapaper! Thanks!

Background Image Caching Broken

I love the app but in the last update the background image caching stopped working. Please correct this and youll be awarded a shiny 5th star!

It’s excellent and does everything I need it to do to keep up with my feeds!!!

I love this app, I finally updated to the new version. What makes it awesome is it caches everything to the app for viewing later, so that means if it syncs at home I’ve got everything downloaded and I don’t have to use my data while on the go. It could use a search function but other than that its pretty complete. When you’ve got a folder of feeds you can slide one way to see all the feeds or you can slide one wait to see all of the articles. Or you can going to settings and can figure out which way you wanted to work by tapping on it. Users who complain about too many taps, too many screens, or too many levels deep need to check out the settings AND the sliding options (its a little hard to find). The initial help screen than came up when I launched it doesn’t seem to be accessible again (maybe the tips was in there…). Settings or configurable in all sorts of ways, the settings are little confusing (several layers) but its worth learning how to configure. I finally plunked down my $4.99 and it’s pretty much the same program (from a user standpoint), I was bitter for a while that they abandoned the old iPad version (after telling we were getting an updated version for free, but didn’t) and the desktop version was abandoned too. I give this app 4.5 stars! I upped my rating a few times, its either added features or I discovered them buried in the settings menu, right now does pretty much everything I want.

My life

The best. The best app.

Great App, needs a few keyboard shortcuts

I love this app. If I could only change one thing would be to support keyboard shortcuts (arrow keys) for use on iPad Pro with keyboard. Nice work.

Critical Flaw

There is a very critical flaw, its way too easy to accidentally mark everything as read and no way to undo that! While reading at night I accidentally long pressed and BAM hundreds of articles I saved were marked read and gone. No way to revert. All my saved articles lost. Very very upset about this. Who even uses this gesture anyways, who batch reads everything above/below an article? Ive never once wanted to do that. This should be removed. Additionally it is just sad it doesnt have any VoiceOver support whatsoever. I shouldnt need perfect vision in order to catch up on the news.

Some critical annoyances on iPad

Tldr newsify trumps this for iPad but Reeder is best for iPhone Beautiful app and quite smooth, but some annoyances keep me using Newsify on my iPad. iPad landscape view unable to be full screen. This is distracting having to read an entire article with your article lists in the sidebar. The inability to change the font unless youre at the top of the article is also obnoxious. The addition of a "newspaper" layout similar to Newsify would be great.

Stopped working

Last update killed the app. Attempting to log in just returns a spinning icon and times out. Deleted.

No ability to mark as read on scroll

And therefore useless. Waste of money. Switched to Newsify.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Would be great if Reeder 3 for iOS allowed keyboard shortcuts like the desktop app. With the iPad Pro, keyboards are becoming more common. It would be more efficient to go through a feed with dedicated buttons. Thanks!

Excellent RSS Reader

Functional, cleanly designed, and extremely stable. Reeder is all you need in an RSS reader. Would be nice to have keyboard hotkeys (i.e. Up and down to change articles)

Ok Reader

Its a good reader. Simple and easy to use. One important missing feature is the ability to search the downloaded articles.

Needs support for iPad Pro Smart Keyboard

Or any Bluetooth keyboard. For example: j, k to go traverse articles (at the very least). And yes, the interface makes it very easy to mark remaining unread articles as read. I have mistakenly done this a few times. Otherwise this app is fantastic. It is, in fact, the most used app aside from the iPad browser.

Generally good

Id rather *only* use the native sharing system and turn off Reeders custom sharing options altogether.
